Commissions
Commissioning artwork is about telling a story – it is creating a very personal, enduring artwork that may be seen and treasured for generations to come. It can also be a simple way to beautify and add personality to your home. I love doing commissions and hope to make the commissioning experience enjoyable.
The commissioning process is outlined below from start to finish. Prices start at $160. If you would like further details or prices about a commission, please fill out the Contact form. If you have a question, do check out my Frequently Asked Questions as you may find your answer there.
Stage 1
After getting in touch, I will arrange a time to discuss the full process with you. This will include the type and size of artwork you would like to commission, reference photos or the sitting, timings, delivery of the finished artwork and framing. Things to bear in mind are where the artwork is to hang and any pressing timeframes or deadlines.
Following this discussion, I will be able to email you the tailored price which will be dependent upon size, medium, number of subjects and any other details specific to your artwork. At this point a 30% non-refundable deposit is payable to move forward.
This stage can be done via email, over the phone/zoom or in person either at my home in Avoca Beach NSW or at the sitters/commissioner's home or place of work.
Stage 2
I am often provided with photographs, or else sitting/s are arranged at a convenient time and place for both parties and usually last for 1-2 hours at the sitter’s home, or an agreed location. During the sitting I will get to know the sitter whilst making working sketches and taking photographs. These references will then be taken back to the studio to begin creating the artwork. In some instances, a montage of photos may be needed, so I will edit images together for approval.
Generally, only one sitting is required, though sometimes a short second sitting may need to be arranged.
Stage 3
To keep you updated, I will send you photos of the progress of your artwork via email, and at about the halfway point, you will be invited to provide feedback. I see the creation of commissioned artwork as collaborative, so feedback is important and where possible, I will work with your feedback to make the artwork as perfect as possible.
At any point, both the sitter and commissioner are welcome to arrange a time to come and see the artwork in progress.
Stage 4
The exciting bit! Once completed, I will email you a photo of the finished artwork for your final approval. Pending drying time, the artwork will then be sent to you/picked up/framed by the agreed method and it's all yours to enjoy or gift to the person you intended it for.
